The “Has God Said?” Project
A very dear friend and academic mentor wrote a monograph entitled, Has God Said?: Scripture, The Word of God, and the Crisis of Theological Authority.1 He opened his examination of the crisis of theological authority with an allusion to Genesis 3 where the serpent asks of Eve, “Indeed, has God said, . . . ?” Disguised in this question’s context is the rejection of God’s authority.
Conversely, there are times when we do have to ask, “Has God said . . . ?” as people attempt to speak authoritatively for God. In these instances, then, the inquiry becomes, “What has God said about issue ‘X’?” and the polemic becomes, “Has God truly said ‘X’ about issue ‘Y’?”
Motivated by the latter question, then, I begin this (sporadic) series entitled, “Has God said?” Articles under this series will attempt to examine what God has said about the topic in question. Therefore, most of the articles posted under this series will be polemical to refute false theological assertions.
