A collection of books I recommend, in no particular order.
The Atonement: Its Meaning and Significance. Leon Morris. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 1983.
In this explication of common but often poorly understood terms used in Christian orthodoxy, Leon Morris addressed their Old Testament background, and historical contexts. After exploring their backgrounds and contexts, Morris then addressed the importance of each term from the Christian perspective.
Christ in Christian Tradition: Volume One: From the Apostolic Age to Chalcedon (451). Aloys Grillmeier, S. J. Translated by John Bowden. Atlanta, GA: John Knox Press, 1975.
An excellent and thorough explication of orthodox Christianity’s development of thought over who and what Christ Jesus is. Grillmeier explored the Christological development by the major, and not so major, Christian figures of the ancient world, and brought into the open the strengths and weaknesses of each, as well as how their thoughts about the God-man contributed to an orthodox understanding of Christology. Key passages cited from ancient texts are usually in their original languages.
Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus: A Devout Muslim Encounters Christianity. Nabeel Qureshi. Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2018.
An excellent autobiography of one Muslim’s encounter with Christianity. Qureshi’s comparison of Muslims born and raised in Western cultures and their views of Islam’s message, to those of Muslims born and raised in non-Western cultures is especially insightful.
